This is a truly powerful poem which speaks about the ingominies some people who consider themselves as superiors subject others whom they consider as inferior, which include the unpardonable, inhuman act of forcing faeces into the mouth, an actual incident that happened at a place called Thinniyam in Tamil Nadu. Unfortunately, the accused got away due to technical loopholes in police investigation. This poem in Tamil by the renowned Poet Sukirtha Rani , which is reproduced here with her prior permission alongside an English translation by moi, is a poignant account of what atrocities a human being can inflict upon a fellow human being:
என் கவிதை
உயிர்ச்சுனையில் தவறி விழுந்து
பாறையிடுக்கில் செருகிக் கொண்ட
மீன் கொந்திய உடல்
மான் நீரருந்துவதைப் போல
படுக்கை விரிப்பு கசங்காமல்
நுகரப்படும் மெல்லிய காமம்
பிறப்புறுப்பு தைக்கப்பட்ட
பழங்குடிப் பெண்ணொருத்தியின்
இரத்தமாய் வெளியேறும் சிறுநீர்
கதவிடுக்கில் சிக்கிக் கொண்ட

MY POEM
The fish-eaten deadbody
that slipped down
the fresh-water spring
and got stuck in the gap
between rocks.
Thin lust consumed
without crumpling the bedcover,
like a deer drinking water.
The bloody urine
passed by a tribal woman
whose genitals
have been sewn up.
Love that aches
like a life caught
in the door.
The last breath
filled with agony
of a woman
raped in a running bus.
The lone drop of sweat
of the little girl
who breaks stones
in the treeless high Sun.
An inch of tongue
trapped between
the teeth of those
hung to death.
Sewer water on the palm
of mentally impaired people
who scoop up and drink it.
A mouthful of faeces
stuffed into my mouth
at Thinniyams.
